See you at the farmers market…

It’s been a busy spring around the gardens. We have been splitting time between the King George Farmers Markets on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays and at the Fredericksburg Farmers Market on the2nd and 4th Saturdays of April and May. We have enjoyed talking with so many gardeners- some just beginning their plant journey and some professionals with years of experience. We appreciate everyone who has visited the tent and look forward to updates on your plants. We will be at the King George market through June and at the Fredericksburg market through November. We hope to see you there!

February in the gardens

In February the sunlight is notably longer and richer than the short January days. The month is filled with days that seem like spring and cold, blustery winter storms. The first, bright green sprouts are a welcome change from the winter grey.

January in the gardens

In our zone 7 gardens, January has brought some well enjoyed snow! We still have some snow on the ground and the temperatures won’t be above freezing for several days. It’s too cold to be productive outside, so we are spending the days preparing for the spring and a busy growing season. We are selecting new perennial, vegetables, and annual varieties to add to the gardens. There are new benches for spring potting and a new greenhouse will soon provide additional growing space. We are prepping for a busy spring at the local farmers markets with vegetables and flowers.

While it’s cold outside the indoor plants are growing strong, creating vibrant, green spaces that brighten winter days! We have lots of propagations that will soon be ready for potting - philodendrons, hoyas, and pothos are rooting now. Alocasias and monstera are growing strong in the greenhouse, even though its cold outside.
